It's a good idea to approach these cheaper French brandies with a bit of caution. In many cases the initials "VSOP" are a meaningless designation. Ronsard however, back up their claim (VSOP means Very Special Old Pale but also implies a minimum amount of barrel ageing) with a definite age statement; 5 Years Old. And while 5 years might be a far cry from 20 years it does guarantee that the brandy has had enough time to mellow and smooth out some of the raw, rough edges that a really young brandy will inevitably sport. In this regard Ronsard is remarkable
